A global nonprofit, ChildFund International exists to tackle the problem of almost 400 million children living in extreme poverty around the world. By providing its child sponsorship program and other initiatives, the organization seeks to improve the well-being of these children and their communities. It also maintains funds specifically for response to crises and emergency situations.
Recent emergencies for which ChildFund International has employed these funds include the COVID-19 crisis, which has left many families without the ability to feed their children. Earlier in 2020, the organization sent aid to east Africa, where hosts of desert locusts swarmed countries such as Uganda and Kenya.
In 2019, the organization sought to address some of the underlying causes of forced migration from Central America, in which families and their children risked the dangers of traveling to the United States. The year before, it provided emergency care to people in Indonesia, where the earthquake and tsunami left nearly 2,000 dead.
