Recycle4Charity is a nonprofit owned by EcoGenie. The organization accepts empty, used original ink and toner cartridges from HP, Brother and Lexmark, and interested customers can request shipping materials from their website. Recycle4Charity sells the cartridges to remanufacturing facilities, which refill the cartridges and sell them again. Customers can also send in full, unused cartridges for recycling, but they must contact a phone number or email address on Recycle4Charity’s About page to schedule a pickup.
Recycle4Charity operates three donation programs. Their first involves the customer, of any size, sending in a package of at least six to 12 used laser toner cartridges, 20 inkjet cartridges, or a 20 to 40-pound box full of both items, and the proceeds from the sale of that package contributing to a charity of Recycle4Charity’s choice. The other two programs offer cash back, minimum $25, for qualified submissions, so the customer can use the money however they wish. The first caters toward large businesses and nonprofits, and the second specifically helps schools on the condition that the cash back money funds the school’s activities.
